I may make some paper tokens to see how plausible this actually is. From my experience it has been fiddly moving things around with cards behind them. I also find the cards behind my creatures have to be partially visible which means the height increases and often goes into a neighbouring zone.
Obviously face down cards would remain on the board. I am only proposing this for enchantments that have been revealed.

I really wish they would have designed enchantments so that their listed effect was closer to the bottom of the card. That way you could tuck the card further underneath and not hog as much space.
