As for your reasons about the guarding clause, I can see those points. But TBH, a 4 life creature with 5 armor still isn't that good of a guard. A lucky roll could kill it in one attack. I do like the idea of a conjuration moving around during your turn and turning back to stone during opponent's turns with no increased upkeep costs. Maybe have it be soft and fleshy (no armor) during your turn and regain the armor during opponent's turns (esp. when guarding).
I love fanmade creations, and I love seeing all the new ideas. I myself am not a "creator", I like to think I'm more of a "refiner". Sorry if I'm intruding on your ideas too much.
