ok i think your having trouble with the quick cast and confusing it with a quick action. here is some helpful info.quick actions can only be done with your action marker. any creature can do quick actions with the action marker, not just the mage. a quick action can be attacking with a quick attack, guardinging. moving a second space, or casting a quick spell.
the quick spell marker the mage gets can only be used to cast a quick spell. this may be a quick attack spell or any quick spell.
with the stunned condition, you can only cast quick non attack spells. you cannot move or do anything else until your stun marker is cleared. you can wait till you take your action, doing nothing (or casting a quick non attack spell with the second part of your action) and after your action marker is cleared you can use your quick cast normally.
it should be noted you can use your quick cast marker AS SOON AS your stun condition is cleared. so it is possible to use your action marker, clear the stun, then immediately flip over and use your quick cast to cast an attack spell. (as you can use your quick cast after any regular action marker, and after you use the regular action marker the stun is cleared)
so yes stun is not nearly as effective against a mage, however it does restrict your timeing of your attack spells and when you use your action marker. for example. lets say you want to cast lightning bolt on the enemy mage and force push them through a wall. you plan and set up your combo. then bam you get stunned. you now cannot cast your lightning bolt with your action marker, you have to use your force push first. but after the force push, you will be out of line of sight of your target. you grumble and cast the force push, saving the lightning bolt for another day.
so there are very subtle restrictions on the mage/stun resolution that become more apparent with more games under your belt. even though you can use your action marker first and then feel free to cast attack spells with your quick cast. hope this helps! any other questions please feel free
