Dan, as I said, I may have come off as defensive...it's just, there's no way it's broken.Broken means a game is technically unplayable! There are plenty of ways to deal with this combo. Any combo, really. That's one of the strengths of this game, I think.
If your spellbook is prepared well, it should be able to deal with most/all situations (at least once). Sure, if you were to bust out a 2nd pair of that Wand + Attack, I'd be in trouble, but you aren't accounting for the fact that I could be harrying you in many ways.
Walls blocking LOS, mana-reduction (casting that spell will get pricey, turn after turn...) and if you are spending your round attacking me, then my handful of creatures should, at the very least, be evening up whatever damage you are doing to me. I cannot imagine, in this core set, any unbeatable group of cards. Dissolve the wand...counter the spell as your bring out the Wand, block LOS, Explode, add defensive/toughness to your Mage...
