I totally respect your position - you would rather play a generic wizard or Beastmaster - just build a spell book and play. That is fun.

For me, if MW had developed characters with backgrounds, it would add to the story of the game, it would give it more depth for me. Playing Severus Snape type character, for example, who has a written background would help me really envision the battle to a greater degree of detail. Severus Snape vs Harry Potter on the MW board - that sounds fun to me.

It also might be cool to have a campaign system so you can advance a story line after battles are played.

But I am getting carried away now. The game is great as it is and I can always add these elements myself I guess

there is a good deal of background story available at the Magewars.com site, including http://magewars.com/jsite/detailed-overview/world-of-etheria. At one point they were hinting at the possibility of Archmages in future expansions which would be powerful named characters(such as Morweena, the Bog Queen) strong enough to take on two other mages at once, I don't know if that is still something they are working on or not.

I think of the available characters now as class types and not individuals... like when your starting an rpg, you select a priestess or warlock class and then you build up from there, making them your own personal creations.

also, I believe the game's organized play aspect will have an interactive and involving story which could add the depth you are looking for.

The World of Etheria looks very cool and I love the idea of having Morweena who is strong enough to take on 2 mages. The idea of playing this as a 3 player game is awesome. It sounds like there are some very exciting development plans in the works. Thanks for sharing.
