Disclaimer: I am waiting for my new Mage Wars stuff to arrive and I have not played team games. But from reading the OP Close Mind sounds a lot more interesting than snooping on your partner's spellbook and telling them what to do. I think there should be some sort of "trust" between partners and expect they'd do the best they can to solve the problem presented.
I bet that after a couple of team games you'll learn to tweak your spellbooks to synergize with each other's strategies and tactics. There will be a better understanding of the play style of your partner and an overall better and more satisfying experience.
